What’s Up?

Phil and I have been training for the Monument Ave 10k. We’re three weeks away from the big event, and we’re already up to 5 miles. The Saturday runs with the training team are really great, and it’s a lot easier to complete the runs with a huge, supportive group of people. During the week, Phil and I run together, and he’s been wonderful about staying at my (much slower) pace. On the weekends, I cut him loose and he’s usually in the top 10 or 20 finishers for our training group. My only goal is to run the whole 10k, so I’m not concerned about my time, but my pace per mile has already dropped quite a bit over the training. I’m excited to cross the finish line… until this training, I don’t think I’ve EVER run more than a mile.

We’re also making huge plans for our garden. We’re going to let the front half of the yard lay fallow this year; we’ve seeded it with vetch, and I’ll probably add some more flowers around the edge. Behind that, we’re going to rent a tiller and we’ll plow under the back half of the yard (it’s all weeds at the moment). We’re going to order as many seeds as we can from Etsy.com, and try to support the small seed savers of the world. We’ll probably place our orders in the next week or so, so we should be able to get our hands dirty in the not-too-distant future!

Of course, though we have the best of intentions with our garden, we’re not completely unrealistic about our food needs, so we’ve joined the CSA again this year, with the same farm we’ve been with for the last two summers. I’m SO excited about getting back to our weekly pickups and Saturday mornings at the market. šŸ™‚ Phil and I are going to volunteer with the farm too. We’re not exactly sure what we’ll be doing, but it’s shaping up to be a much quieter summer for us, so we should be able to help out at least a little bit.

That’s what’s new with us… more blogging to come.
